Summary of course
DSM Ltd have been training persons in safe handling techniques for over 10 years and Clients continue to return to us, for this service. Our courses are general manual handling or bespoken if held at Clients place of work. No specific criteria is required to attend our training course, but candidates must be in good health. The course will cover:
Refresh prior learning or introduce new safe lifting methods
Individual awareness of handling legislation
Use of risk assessment
Types of manual handling, Mechanical or Physical
Provide learner with awareness of what can go wrong, the effects of poor handling techniques and how to improve good manual handling skills.
Subjects dealt with will include
Lifting techniques used to help prevent personal injury caused by poor manual handling skills.
Effects at National, local and personal level when bad handling techniques are in use.
Human body, with particular reference and resources used to illustrate the spine
Stress in manual lifting tasks and effects on the whole body.
Lifting skills used in a team to help prevent handling injuries.
Learning tools
All learners will be provided with course materials which will include handouts and take away booklet for future reading. In addition the learner will have access to models used to describe the spine, vertebrates and nervous system contained around the spine.
A full description of course is presented in power point display, practicable sessions and written paper at conclusion of instruction.
Conclusion of course:
Candidates on successfully completing practicable sessions for individual and team lifting skills and the final question paper, will be awarded a 2 year certificate of achievement. It is recommend that further instruction be used as refresher training at 12 month point to ensure learning is maintained.
